Open Invention Network Announces Continued Strength in Licensing

Durham, NC (November 8, 2011) – OIN today announced a significant increase in the size of the OIN community of licensees during its most recent fiscal quarter as licensees continue to benefit from the value of the growing OIN community and the freedom of action enabled by OIN’s licensing program. During the third quarter of 2011, OIN signed 28 new licensees. OIN licensees, which include founding members and associate members, benefit from the leverage provided by a patent portfolio dedicated to the protection of Linux and access to enabling technologies through OIN and shared intellectual property resources. Continuing the trend from earlier this year, Linux users are driving the continued expansion of the OIN community,” said Keith ergelt, CEO of Open Invention Network. “During the third quarter, OIN licensees included companies such as HTC Corporation and LG Electronics, among others. We clearly remain committed to growing our community with open source software developers and vendors as well.” During the third quarter of 2011, the list of new corporate OIN licensees affirming their support for Linux and freedom of action included the following:
1. Ark Linux
2. BackBox Linux
3. Bigtux
4. CAINE-Live CD
5. Clique Studios
6. Conecta Research
7. Edimax Technology Co., Ltd.
8. Endless Ideas BV
9. Fuduntu
10. Helal Linux
11. HTC Corporation
12. iGolaware

Patents owned by Open Invention Network are licensed royalty-free to any company, institution or individual that agrees not to assert its patents against the Linux System. This enables companies in the OIN community to continue to make significant corporate and capital investments in Linux – helping to fuel economic growth. By broadly licensing its rapidly expanding patent portfolio, OIN is disseminating protections across the Linux community and promoting an active dialogue among entities committed to freedom of action in Linux. The web of Linux developers, distributors, sellers, resellers and end-
users that license OIN’s patent portfolio acknowledge and affirm OIN’s commitment to enable Linux and address the ongoing threat from companies that seek to limit, exclude or tax open source initiatives. OIN has amassed a broad portfolio of patents, including patents held by nominees on its behalf. These patents are available to all licensees as part of the patent portfolio that OIN is creating around, and in support of Linux. Plans For 11.10.5

I’ve received great feedback from users, and for what I’ve read, there bugs in the last release, the anticipated date for the next release has been planned for 08-21-2011, and this’ll fix the problems. The overall stability would be greatly improved; so until then, feel free to join the forum to get support with any problems you have with the last release…

Revolution

Sn0wL1nuX is now LuninuX OS, so it looks like a Linux distribution has been create by Lars Torben and he’s calling it SnowLinux, so i’ve decided to change the name of my distro from Sn0wL1nuX to LuninuX OS to avoid any confusions.

Incorporating

LuninuX OS is now part of Open Invention Network, which is an intellectual property company that was formed to promote Linux by using patents to create a collaborative environment. It promotes a positive, fertile ecosystem for Linux, which in turns drives innovation and choice in the global marketplace. This helps ensure the continuation of innovation that has benefited software vendors, customers, emerging markets and investors.
